CONROE PAN AMERICAN ROUND TABLE I
History

What follows is an excerpt from The Pan American Round Table, Lois Terry Marchbanks, Avon Behren Press, 1983, (pp. 121-122).

Our Table was organized in 1949. Early in that year a group met and organized. The first meeting was held at the home of Mrs. James E. Crane. Mrs. Earle Gentry was elected Director; Mrs. J.C. Wahrenberger, Associate Director; Mrs. Charles Harritt, Recording Secretary; Mrs. Leo Cooper, Jr., Corresponding Secretary; Mrs. Louise Thiel, Treasurer; Mrs. W.P. McComb, Parliamentarian, Mrs. Thomas Falvey, Historian. Nineteen additional ladies completed the original membership. On March 8, 1949 the Certificate of Membership was presented to the Conroe Table by then State Director Mrs. Dixie Waltrip of Dallas. On May 16, 1949 the Conroe Table received its charter from the Alliance of Pan American Round Tables.

We have had the delightful honor of sharing some of our members with others. Mrs. Charles Harritt served as State Custodian; Mrs. W. P. McComb was State Historian; Mrs. W.A. Evans was Fourth Associate Director; Mrs. W.P. McComb was elected State Director of Pan American Round Tables of Texas in April 1957. Mrs. H.C. Delk, who is the Editor of PANAMERICAN TEXANA originally joined our Table and at one time was Director.

We use our locally raised funds to give Nursing scholarships in Honduras, and help support a hospital in Haiti. An interest in Spanish speaking peoples and their languages is as great for us all as it is for other Pan American Round Tables.

Respectfully,
Janet Emmons (Mrs. Floyd)
