"THE DIGNITY OF WOMEN"

Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States of America, spoke yesterday on behalf of the oppressed women of Afghanistan, in a presidential radio address normally only reserved for the Presidents.

Mrs. Bush cast the war on terrorism as a "fight for the rights and dignity of women". It is a fact that women in Afghanistan were banned from most work and girls over 8 years old were banned from schooling. The civilized world condemns this horror against women and girls and prays that it will never be imposed on the rest of us.

Our Organization, "The Alliance of Pan American Round Tables", gathers women from the American Nations since 1944. We are committed to raising the educational, cultural and social standards of the women and children of the Americas and to promote understanding and friendship among the people of our Continent. Obviously, our goals are very much in agreement with the goals expressed by Mrs. Bush, as far as the dignity of women is concerned. Afghanistan is not within the Americas, but the dignity of women is just as important and also as much at risk in many parts of our own American Continent. This is also a fact…

Since October 17, 2001 the Alliance of Pan American Round Tables has been officially accredited by the OAS as a Civil Society, apt to participate and cooperate with the OAS projects. (Resolution CP/RES 759) As a result, I hereby challenge our members to offer ideas (in writing) to aid us in our contribution to the OAS related projects. I am currently presiding over the Alliance "Liaison Committee with the OAS" and I appreciate your input.

Very sincerely,

HELENA
